Cello Intensive Summer Camp at the Music Institute of Chicago
August 4th - August 8th 2025
At this cello intensive at the Music Institute of Chicago, you will be able to experience a wide variety of what the cello has to offer from detailed practice plans, technique workbooks, alternative styles, how to perform under pressure and more. Each student will receive a booklet of exercises and will be able to learn the secrets of performing with multiple performance opportunities of the same piece throughout the week.

Videos of most classes will be made available to students to rewatch for a limited time following the conclusion of the camp.
Schedule
9:30-10:00 Warmups and stretching
10:00-11:00 Technique
11:00-12:00 Alternative Styles or Rhythm and movement classes
12:00-1:00 Bring your own lunch hour
1:00-2:00 Cello Choir
2:00-3:30 Performance class, mental performance training and effective practice training
3:30-5:30 optional 45-minute lesson time with Mr. Friedlander and/or private 30 or 45- minute coaching with Mary Drews are available for an additional fee

Vision
This camp is designed for students at the Suzuki book 8 or equivalent level and above. With most teachers taking time off in August to prepare for the fall, students will get a boost of energy and information in order to have them prepared for the upcoming school year. Maximum of 16 students will be admitted with an age maximum of 19 years old

All classes are lead by Avi Friedlander (cello)
Mary Drews will be on piano for the performance classes
Sarah Montzka will be leading the rhythm and movement classes
For out of town guest. Rental instruments can be provided by William Harris Lee in Wilmette.
There are plenty of places to eat close to the the location
Both Winnetka and Wilmette villages of a variety of wonderful places to eat within a short drive to the MIC campus.
